Diversity Training

YWCA of White Plains

Diversity Training Initiative

PURPOSE: To effect change in organizational policies, practices and behaviors as they relate to differences of race and gender; to provide organizations with the means to become actively anti-racist, anti-sexist, and inclusive organizations.

PHILOSOPHYWe begin with two basic assumptions:

  • The most successful organizations are those that authentically and actively promote an inclusive work environment.
  • Because discrimination is structured into the fabric of our society, every place of work in the United States can improve its efforts to eliminate discrimination, increase respect and support diversity.

THE PROGRAM:

  • Organizational Assessment – completed in collaboration with Senior Executive Staff to examine strengths and needs related to diversity and inclusion
  • Training Workshops -- for senior and middle management, two, 3-hour sessions
  • Goal Setting Meeting:  following 2nd workshop
  • Monthly Coaching/Consultation Meetings – with Senior Executive Staff to support progress toward goal achievement
  • Telephone and Additional Meeting Consultation – ongoing as needed
  • Post-program Survey -- to measure outcomes of program initiative

AGENCY REQUIREMENTS – There is no fee for this program.  Agencies are asked to commit to the full year of work, to work in partnership with the consultant in all aspects of the program, and to commit fully toward becoming a more inclusive organization.

The YWCA mission is to empower women and girls and to work to eliminate racism.  From establishing study circles throughout the county in the 1990’s to opening an EDER (Ending Discrimination Eliminating Racism) office, the YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester is a leader in addressing issues of discrimination, and has a proven track record of having the skill and sophistication to deliver a meaningful training program with impact.
